Impact investing is one possibility to mobilize private capital. In the German financial industry, however, impact investing is still considered a niche sector. The Bundesinitiative Impact Investing wants to change this and promote the development of an impact investing ecosystem in Germany. The Impact Investing program at the Ballard Center focuses on experiential learning with leading social investment firms, impact investors, social entrepreneurs, innovative non-profit organizations, and foundations to identify, assist, and fund social enterprises with significant potential. The IRI’s Impact Investing for the Next Generation program is an applied research program that directly engages Next Gen cohorts to explore the role of family offices in impact investing. Through two workshops and a six-month period of individual and group work, participants develop leadership and engagement skills, Impact investing has proven to be a powerful catalyst for global progress, and rising interest from mainstream investors is fueling significant market growth. Nonetheless, capital gaps abound, and enterprises struggle to attract the financing they need to advance social and environmental goals.
