The PERT chart is effectively nothing more than the hard copy of your thought process. During the project, PERT charts are a good tool for calculation of the critical path and float, especially when the project changes, but they are not the best at showing you what your project team needs to be working on right now. To implement a PERT chart: Identify the different tasks needed to complete a project. Make sure to add these in the right order and indicate the duration of each task. Create a network diagram. Use arrows to represent the activities and nodes as milestones. Determine the critical path and When creating a PERT chart, project managers should follow the below steps: Define all activities involved in the project. Consider any dependencies between tasks. Draw nodes and arrows based on the information gathered in the first two steps. Identify the completion time for each task. The PERT chart template was created to help you plan all of the tasks needed to successfully deliver a project. The PERT template can be used in the planning or preparation phase of any project or it can be used for project reporting. INTRODUCTION Basically, CPM (Critical Path Method) and PERT (Programme Evaluation Review Technique) are project management techniques, which have been created out of the need of Western industrial and military establishments to plan, schedule and control complex projects. 1.1 Brief History of CPM/PERT CPM/PERT or Network Analysis as the technique is sometimes called, developed along […] Critical Path Analysis and PERT are powerful tools that help you to schedule and manage complex projects. They were developed in the 1950s to control large defense and technology projects, and have been used routinely since then. As with Gantt Charts , Critical Path Analysis (CPA) or the Critical Path Method (CPM) helps you to plan all tasks that must be completed as part of a project. Chapter 11: PERT for Project Planning and Scheduling PERT, the Project Evaluation and Review Technique, is a network-based aid for planning and scheduling the many interrelated tasks in a large and complex project. It was developed during the design and construction of the Polaris submarine in the USA in the 1950s, which was one of

10 Jun 2016 Tasks (activities) are represented as arrows; Milestone dates are nodes. PERT charts are also called activity-on-arrow diagrams (project

PERT charts are usually drawn on ruled paper with the horizontal axis indicating time period divisions in days, weeks, months, and so on. Although it is possible to draw a PERT chart for an entire project, the usual practice is to break the plans into smaller, more meaningful parts. A PERT chart is usually created after most of a project’s tasks have been identified. PERT analysis is best performed near the end of project planning because you need to have at least a basic idea of which tasks are critical and which are less so. Construction Project ( PERT Chart) Use Creately’s easy online diagram editor to edit this diagram, collaborate with others and export results to multiple image formats. You can edit this template and create your own diagram. Creately diagrams can be exported and added to Word, PPT (powerpoint), Excel, Visio or any other document. A project/program evaluation review technique, or PERT chart, is a graphical representation of a project’s key milestones and timeline. The PERT chart accounts for inevitable changes that occur in a project’s schedule that impact the project finish. Steps to Implementing a PERT Chart Determine the tasks required to complete the project, the order in which they must be done and their duration. Create a network diagram with arrows representing activities and nodes being milestones. PERT and CPM are tools used for managing the construction project activities and if followed thoroughly, the construction project can be completed within the time limit and within the cost. But use of these tools does not guaranty the desired outcome due to bad management problems, natural calamities, strikes by labors etc.

explore the construction scheduling techniques and methods adopted in the Conventional project planning techniques such as CPM, PERT, Gantt Chart, etc.

PERT charts were developed in the 1950s under contract to the United States and can be done by hand or by using a software package such as Microsoft Project. on smaller jobs these could be actual days within the construction program. Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT) charts A PERT chart is a project management tool that provides a graphical representation of a project's timeline  PERT is a project management planning tool used to calculate the amount of time it will take to realistically finish a project. PERT stands for Program Evaluation Review Technique. PERT charts are tools used to plan tasks within a project - making it easier to schedule and coordinate team members accomplishing the work. PERT charts were created in the 1950s to help manage the creation of weapons and defense projects for the US Navy.

Managing a project with network planning methods involves four steps: 1. Flow of the diagram is from left to right. 4. CPM- for construction projects.
