Under the ESI Act, employers and employees both contribute their shares respectively. Presently, the rate of contribution is fixed at 6.5% of the wages with employers’ share being 4.75% and employees’ share being 1.75%.

The rates are revised from time to time. Currently, the employee's contribution rate (w.e.f. 01.07.2019) is 0.75% of the wages and that of employer's is 3.25% of   ESI Calculations. Employer’s and Employee’s contribution to ESI:-The employee’s contribution is 1.75% of wages, rounded to next higher rupee. Employer’s contribution is 4.75% of wages payable to each employee, rounded off to next higher rupee. The contribution has to be paid within 21 days from close of the month.
